It is with profound sadness we acknowledge the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Bernard Lofton. Since 2007, The ECHO program of The Justice Education Center, Inc. and The Walter E. Luckett Jr. Foundation, Inc. worked with Mr. Lofton in his capacity as a Commissioner of the ECHO Summer League and as Founder and Director of the Books to Basketball program. Mr. Lofton, affectionately known as Bernie, worked tirelessly in his endeavors to assist in and support the development of young people in the Bridgeport community. His emphasis was not only on sports and fitness, but in academics, STEM, and life skills training. He loved to learn and enjoyed seeing young people embrace new ideas and concepts. He was not only a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin, but a coach, mentor, friend, and surrogate father to many. He was well known and respected for his can-do attitude, creative ideas, and attention given to young people to motivate them to be the best they can be. He would not accept anything less of them or himself.
We will miss Bernie for his selfless contributions and will continue to do our part to ensure his
legacy of service to young people will not be forgotten or in vain.
✟ 🕊️
With Deep Sympathy,
Walter and Valita Luckett
