National Coalition of 100 Black Women 2023 Awards

Monroe, CT - June 11, 2023. The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc – New Haven Metropolitan Chapter Special Guest this year was Sybrina Fulton. Ms. Fulton spoke on her experience after the passing of her son Treyvon Martin. She shared her experiences on fighting for social justice and becoming an activist for those who lost a loved one to gun violence. Ms. Fulton does a lot of work nationwide and is the leader of the “Mothers of the Movement” which her organization that offers emotional and monetary support to families that lost their son(s) to gun violence.



 


Valita introduced Grammy nominated and award-winning flutist Sherry Winston to perform the African American National Anthem. Ms. Winston has released 6 albums where her first ‘Do It for Love’ went #1 on the BRE and Black Excellent charts. Her songs ‘Love Madness’ and ‘Life is Love & Love is You’ went top 10 on Billboard. Sheri’s third CD won the 107.5 WBLS Quiet Storm award and reached top 10 at ‘Radio & Records’.

Ms. Winston worked as the business director at various record labels, performed with Stevie Wonder to Hal Jackson on his 97th birthday and to former presidents Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush. Ms. Winston has been featured in the New York Times, Black Enterprise, Ebony and more, co-hosted and performed on eight shows for BET TV and promoted well known jazz musicians such as Kenny G, Grover Washington Jr, and other jazz musicians. She also opened for a number of actors and musicians such as Sinbad, John Legend, Chaka Khan, Vanessa Williams and more.
