Day to the Garden 2025

By Brandon Cherry

NEW YORK, NY - On Saturday March 22, 2025, the Foundation took the Bassick High School Boys Basketball team and the University of Bridgeport Men’s Basketball team to the Knicks Game where they took on the Washington Wizards. It ended up being Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) night to celebrate It was to celebrate the rich history and culture HBCU’s provide. This night also celebrated Knicks players that graduated from HBCU’s such as Willis Reed who attended Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana. Walter, Valita, and Brandon were taken by surprise because the game started off with The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Gospel Choir ‘UMES’ (Princess Anne, Maryland) which is Brandon's alma-mater. The UMES Gospel Choir set a powerful tone starting off the game with their rendition of the Black National Anthen ‘Lift Every Voice’ and The National Anthem! The halftime show was conducted by Delaware State University’s Approaching Storm Marching Band ‘DSU’ (Dover, Delaware). Both schools did a wonderful job, they brought so much energy and spirit to the game. It was great to see the representation and acknowledgement of these HBCU’s.
